There's nothing like when show business people throw a party!
The Annual Theater Latte Da Gala - a musical evening based on what they do best - was a doozy. There was everything one can hope for in entertainment from fantastic vocalist/actors to a wonderful duet who performed parts to the Sweeney Todd play now in production, to the most spectacular fundraising process I have ever seen. The theater raised nearly $200,000 in 30 minutes for its new theater building and stage they will buy...they raised in real time as the patrons in the audience dialed their phones onto an internet connection where they could record their donation while the totals flashed on big screens that flanked the stage. Amazing!
It was an honor to shoot the photographs that document the event. Yet, I was painfully aware that working a gala as the only photographer is a young man's (or woman's) game. By the end of the seven hours I was beat. I'm happy I did it once.
But, editing the photos later proved to be the icing for me here. I think I captured the spirit of the moment and that's what the theater company strives for in their own productions. So, it was good to be a part of that.
