Treasure Island...
This production of this famous children's story is done very well using a cast of (you guessed it!) children. The Festival Theater has made quite a reputation for itself in the community as a center for children of all ages to explore their creative and artistic talents. So, many plays, mostly notably the classic A Christmas Carol or Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates, feature children prominently in the productions.
This performance is all about children. Two of the actors are well into their teens, but the bulk of the cast are young people who are stretching their legs into their characters. The thing that one notices right away is how much enthusiasm they have for their roles. There are no more energetic pirates; no more evil Blackbeard (although he has none here), and no more distressed damsels than in this performance. They work hard at having fun and it can be infectious.
